United Cigars has been making its rounds in the cigar industry, and becoming a recurring buy from members of the cigar community. Their flagship line has become a favorite of many, and their newest cigar, the Gold Star, is soon to join it. This review goes over the Gold Star, and how it should be a mainstay in your home humidor.

The Gold Star has a simple, yet elegant, making it memorable. The band is black with gold accents, and a bold, gold star on the front. The name "Gold Star" is boldly printed. There is also the subtle detail of a blue and starred outline throughout the band. While it's simple, it get's the job done in being just eye catching enough to be intriguing. The cigar itself is a light brown color, eluding to its rich and delicious flavor profile.

The Gold Star is constructed with Dominican and Connecticut Broadleaf Fillers, Indonesian Sumatra Binder, and an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 Wrapper. The cigar has a smooth and easy draw throughout the smoke. The burn is also spectacularly even. The ash is a light gray, almost white, which makes it both aesthetically pleasing, but also shows that the cigar was aged perfectly. The ash gets to about one and half inches in length before falling. While the ash is soft, it doesn't flake, and the foot stays solid.

The cold draw of the Gold Star is a great introduction to the experience, providing notes of dried fruit and nuts. At first light, the cigar provides strong earthy notes, and a subtle creaminess.

The first third provides notes of earth and milk chocolate. Subtle notes of toffee, roasted nuts, and white pepper linger on the palate. There are also very subtle notes of fig, which leave just as quickly as it comes. The retrohale on the first third has notes of toast, black pepper, and cocoa.

The second third provides strong notes of earth and cocoa, while undertones of cedar and white pepper come into play. There are also notes of brown sugar, roasted nuts, and dark roasted coffee, which provides a delicious complexity to the experience. The retrohale on the second third provides aromas of cocoa, cinnamon, and a fruity indertone.

The final third provides notes of nuts and cocoa, putting the earthy notes to the backburner. There are also notes of brown sugar, fig, and dark roast coffee. The retrohale on the final third provides aromas of cedar, toast, and white pepper.

The Gold Star is priced very reasonably. A single cigar comes in around $12.99, while a box of 20 is priced around $220.99. Especially with the way many other cigars are costing these days, this is a very competitive price point.

The Gold Star is a delicious cigar, providing a refined and satisfying smoking experience. The construction is fantastic, and the overall flavor profile is one to remember. While it is a medium bodied smoke, it's perfect for all smokers, though newer cigar smokers may want to work up to it.
