Drew Estate is arguably one of the most recognized brands in the cigar industry. From Their Acid series, to the refined elegance of the Liga Privada series, Drew Estate has a cigar for every palate and budget. This review of their new cigar, the Nica Rustica Connecticut, is a great budget smoke that doesn't compromise flavor. Take a look at the review, and consider smoking the Nica Rustica Connecticut the next time your looking for an under $10 cigar.
The Nica Rustica Connecticut has the same band style as the other two cigars in the series. The main band has a ridged or crowned top, and the foot band is thin with the Drew Estate name on it. Both of these bands have a tan and brown color scheme, along with red lettering on the main band. The cigar itself is a light brown. While there are some veins throughout the body, it is smooth to the touch. The cigar is also a regular parejo.
The Nica Rustica Connecticut is constructed with Fillers from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Pennsylvania Broadleaf. The Binder is Mexican, and the Wrapper is Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade. The draw throughout the smoke is easy, allowing the flavors to his the palate properly. There is also a good output on smoke from the cigar, giving a nice aroma during the smoking experience. The ash is light-medium gray, and falls just before the second third. The burn line is a bit uneven at times, but nothing that would require a touch-up.
The flavor profile of the Nica Rustica Connecticut is dynamic, yet simple. The cold draw may feature notes of dried fruit and cashew, while the first light may have notes of white pepper, cedar, and cream.
The first third may have front notes of light roast coffee and cedar. These are accompanied with notes of white pepper. There are also subtle hints of cream and nougat in the first third. The retrohale of the first third may have notes of coffee, pastry, and cedar.
The second third of the cigar may have notes of cream and nougat at the front of the palate. The flavor becomes more dynamic in the second third, with notes of cashew and a slight earthiness. Notes of cedar and white pepper linger on the palate, along with a hint of coffee. The retrohale of the second third may have notes of coffee, pastry, and cashew.
The final third of the smoke may have notes stronger notes of cream and white pepper coming to the forefront. Subtle notes of coffee and earth may also be tasted. There are also slight undertones of cedar and hay. The retrohale of the final third may feature striking notes of white pepper, coffee, and cashew.
The Nica Rustica Connecticut is priced wonderfully. Coming in at around $8.00 for a single, and $200.00 for a box of 25, the Nica Rustica Connecticut is a great cigar for under $10. Even at this price point, the flavor is note compromised. While Drew Estate could easily charge $10 for this cigar, the price is perfect for those looking for an easy smoke. This is a great cigar for newer cigar smokers. It's strength is mild enough for them to enjoy, but dynamic enough to keep them coming back to it. Seasoned cigar smokers will also enjoy if for the price point and easy smoking experience.
