The cigar has an ornate band, with a blue background and gold borders. In the center of the main band is a mural, with the New World line above it. There is a secondary band, which also features a blue background with gold accents and letting The secondary band has "Decenio" printed boldly. The footband is all gold, with the bold AJ Fernandez logo. The cigar itself is a medium brown color. The cigar does have some veins and seems showing. It is a bit rough to the touch, which can be expected from the type of wrapper. the cigar is a regular parejo.
The Decenio is constructed with Nicaraguan and Honduran Fillers, Nicaraguan Binder, and Mexican San Andres Wrapper. The cigar provides a smooth draw, matched by the amazing smoke output. This provides the palate with easy flavor, and a great aroma while smoking the cigar. The ash is light gray, and falls just before the start of the second third. While the burn line is a bit uneven, it doesn't call for touch-ups, and stays consistent throughout the smoke.
The flavor profile on the Decenio is complex, but consistent throughout the smoke. The cold draw may provide notes of vanilla, dried fruit, and almond. The first light may provide strong front notes of coffee and vanilla, with some subtle floral notes.
The first third of the cigar may provide strong notes of earth and coffee. These are accompanied by more subtle notes of almond and fig, with hints of toffee. Towards the end of the first third, subtle black pepper notes hit the palate, along with some subtle floral notes. The retrohale of the first third may provide notes of black pepper, cocoa, and pastry.
The second third of the cigar may have front notes of earth, with almond notes becoming more prominent. Undertones of coca and coffee blend well, and are accented with a hint of cinnamon. Black pepper and toffee can also be tasted, with the consistent subtlety of floral undertones. The retrohale on the second third may provide notes of black pepper, cocoa, and a floral aroma.
The final third brings a more laid back flavor profile. Front notes of almond and fig hit the palate, while the earthy notes become more subtle. Hints of toffee, cocoa, and pastry hit the palate, and compliment the almond and fig notes very well. There is also a subtle coffee, note, along with the floral undertones which stay consistent throughout the smoke. The retrohale of the final third may provide a less upfront aroma, with notes of cocoa, pastry, and floral notes.
The Decenio is priced pretty well. A single cigar can go for around $14.00, while a box of 20 can go for around $280.00. Given everything about this cigar, it's a good price. While the flavor profile is complex, yet consistent, it provides a great smoking experience. The appearance is eye catching, especially against some of the other cigars in the AJ Fernandez catalog. This cigar is a medium-full strength smoke, so more geared towards those who have been smoking for a few years.
